Choosing Wood for Staircases: Oak, Ash or Beech?
Choosing the right wood is one of the most important steps when making a custom staircase. It affects not just aesthetics but also hardness, longevity, maintenance costs and the overall atmosphere of your interior.
Oak — the classic with the longest lifespan
Oak is the most popular wood for staircases in the Czech Republic. Hardness of 3.7–4.0 Brinell, beautiful grain and moisture resistance make it a reliable choice for both modern and rustic interiors.
Ash — lighter and more flexible
Ash has a striking light grain and greater flexibility than oak. Very impact-resistant — popular for high-traffic staircases. Great for light, Scandinavian and modern interiors.
Beech — cost-effective and durable
Beech is one of the hardest European woods. More affordable than oak or ash, but requires careful surface treatment as it is susceptible to moisture. Ideal for interior staircases in dry environments.
Acacia — premium for extreme durability
Acacia is the hardest of commonly available European woods. Naturally moisture-resistant — excellent for external staircases. Characteristic yellow-golden colour.

Shrnutí
For most interiors we recommend oak as the proven choice. For a lighter appearance, choose ash. For maximum savings, choose beech. For outdoor use, consider acacia. These are our standard wood options — we can also work with other species of solid wood on request. We always advise individually.
